Use N/O or N/C Device instead of IR Beams

The Stair Lighting Controller can be triggered using devices other than the IR Beams that come with the controller.

Normally Open (N/O) sensors and Normally Closed (N/C) sensors can also be used. These are known as dry contacts and can be thought of as a switch that is connected to some type of sensor. A few examples of devices that can be used instead of beams are motion detectors and under carpet pressure switches.

Reference:

  • Positive is terminal 5
  • Negative is terminal 6
  • Beam 1 input is terminal 7
  • Beam 2 input is terminal 8

Normally Open Hookup:

  • Connect a resistor with a value of between 10K and 100K from the negative terminal #6 to the desired beam input.
  • From the same beam input as the first step connect one side of the N/O contact.
  • Connect the other side of the N/O contact to the positive terminal #5.

Normally Closed Hookup:

  • Connect a resistor with a value of between 10K and 100K from the positive terminal #5 to the desired beam input.
  • From the same beam input as the first step connect one side of the N/C contact.
  • Connect the other side of the N/C contact to the negative terminal #6.
